FOX 2 - The hit-and-run suspect wanted in connection with the off-duty death of a Detroit police officer has been taken into custody, DPD announced Monday afternoon.
The suspect, who has not been identified due to a pending arraignment, allegedly crashed into, and fatally injured Officer Cameron RIchardson just after midnight early Sunday morning.
Officer Richardson was heading home from work, traveling northbound on Hoover at Greiner. Witnesses said a white van attempted to take a left turn and turned in front of the Jeep.
Detroit Police responded shortly after midnight. Officers arrived at the scene and found a Jeep Wrangler rolled over in a crash. The other involved vehicle had left the scene.
Richardson served on the job for just over one year. Detroit Police described him as a family man with two daughters and a military veteran.
A GoFundMe for the family was started Sunday.
