Homicide suspect steals Westland police car, leads officers on chase
WESTLAND, Mich. - A homicide suspect stole a Westland police car and led officers on a chase Monday afternoon.
The suspect was in the area of Wayne and Joy roads when Detroit police had been watching the suspect.
Westland police stopped to assist but as officers were searching on foot for him, the suspect got free and stole a Westland squad car. He then led officers on a chase.
The man, who is a suspect in a Detroit homicide case, crashed near Warren and Lotz. He was arrested and taken custody. At the scene of the crash, a bystander was transported to a nearby hospital and is in stable condition.
The suspect is wanted by Detroit police in connection to a murder of a man in an alley off Blaine Street on Nov. 16.
DPD officers had been on a stakeout when spotting the suspect near a parking lot of a party store near Wayne and Joy Road.
