House fire causes family to lose everything two weeks before Christmas

For Roslyn McGee, it’s going to be a tough Christmas after a fire that started in the basement of her home on Detroit’s west side, took the house, their clothes, and all of the presents she had for her three children.

The fire started in the basement, and spread quickly, so they only thing that was saved were the clothes on their backs.

The fire ignited early Saturday morning.

"All my kids Christmas gifts, everything we had it’s gone, we have nothing," McGee said.

The structure of the house is still standing, but everything inside is a total mess.

"My only thought was to get my babies out, I didn’t care about nothing else, just wanted my kids to be safe that’s it," she said.

The children are a 17-year-old boy, 12-year-old girl and a 3-year-old boy. McGee is asking for clothing donations for herself and the children. Sizes needed are women’s pants in two extra large or size 18, women’s shirts, large or extra large, women’s shoes size 11 for her; Women’s pants size 16/18 women’s shirt size small or medium and size 10 shoes for her daughter.

The older son wears size 36/38 pants, large or extra large shirts and men’s size 11 shoes. The younger son wears a boys size 6/7 pants or shirt and boys size 11 shoe.

MeGee is also asking for monetary donations through GoFundMe at: https://gofund.me/074102a5
