A huge fire engulfed a mattress store in Detroit near the Warren border early Friday morning.

Eastbound Eight Mile Road at Ryan Road is closed to traffic as crews remain on scene at Mattress Wholesale. Some parts of Ryan Road may also be blocked off, so drivers are encouraged to avoid the area.

We're told firefighters haven't been inside the building yet as the walls are unstable, so they haven't been able to search and see if anyone is inside.

No word yet on any injuries or what may have caused the fire.

The store was totally engulfed by flames just after 7 a.m. We're told about 70 Detroit firefighters are on scene fighting the second-alarm fire.

Deputy Fire Commissioner David Fornell says it took firefighters about an hour and a half to knock the fire down to where it is now. He expects Eight Mile Road to be blocked off through rush hour, and maybe even for the next few hours.

Some homes behind the mattress store were evacuated as a precaution, but the fire did not spread to their area.
