I-94 freeway shooting in Detroit was case of mistaken identity, police say

DETROIT (FOX 2) - A freeway shooting that wounded a woman last month in Detroit was a case of mistaken identity, Michigan State Police said.
The victim was driving on westbound I-94 near Mt. Elliott around 1:40 a.m. Dec. 26, 2024 with her two children in the vehicle when James Edward Murden allegedly started shooting at her. The woman was shot, while the children were not harmed.
Police said Monday that Murden, 32, thought the woman was someone he knew.
Murden, of Detroit, was charged over the weekend with three counts of assault with intent to murder, three counts of assault with intent to cause great bodily harm, eight counts of felony firearm, one count of carrying a concealed weapon, one count of discharging a weapon at a vehicle, and one count of possession of a weapon by a prohibited person.
His bond was set at $300,000 cash or surety.
