Suspect rammed patrol cars, other motorists before being shot by police
I-94 near Woodward is closed after a police pursuit led to a shooting of a suspect who was allegedly using his car as a weapon.
FOX 2 (WJBK) - A Warren police-involved shooting investigation has closed the westbound side of I-94 at Woodward Avenue in Detroit Thursday afternoon.
According to Commissioner Bill Dwyer, a shot fired by an officer on the freeway wounded a suspect. The suspect is in custody at an area hospital after being shot in the arm. No officers were injured.
The suspect was using his car as a weapon and was shot by an officer as he attempted to get his vehicle unpinned from a side wall on the freeway. During a police pursuit, the suspect allegedly rammed three different officer vehicles with his car leading up to the moments before, said a Warren police captain.
Police first attempted to pull over the suspect, driving a silver Chevy Cruze, for traffic violations in the area of westbound Eight Mile near Montrose. The driver refused to pull over and one mile into the pursuit, struck two fully-marked Warren PD patrol cars.

Police-involved shooting investigation on I-94 at Woodward
A viewer submitted video shows the police investigation underway on the freeway.
Officers pursued the suspect's car through several streets as the Chevy entered I-94. The suspect vehicle encountered traffic on westbound I-94 near Woodward at which time the suspect vehicle struck the center median.
According to police, the suspect's car then intentionally struck uninvolved motorists’ vehicles. Officers went to take the suspect into custody, at which time the officer-involved shooting occurred.
The freeway closure is expected to last for hours as the investigation continues, said MSP 1st Lt. Mike Shaw in a social media video.
"MSP units are assisting in closing I 94 near Woodward for a Warren Police Department investigation," posted the Michigan State Police Second District on X, formerly Twitter.
