Iconic 'Castle House' in St. Clair Shores hits the market

An iconic house in St. Clair Shores is on the market.

It's a lakefront home near 12 Mile and Jefferson that's affectionately known as The Castle House to those in the area. And you could be King of Queen of the castle for about $825,000 -- and a little elbow grease.

"People stop by and knock in the door to see this house," says Heidi Norris, the listing agent for the house.

It was build in 1926 out of stone, with a slate roof and a portico.

"It's well built; it's a beautiful home," says Norris.

Many of the original fixtures are still in tact, such as light fixtures, a detailed mahogany staircase, stained glass windows, doorknobs and even the laundry chute. The house has a separate, attached Carriage House as well.

"I've known this house forever; it's iconic. It's iconic of St. Clair Shores," says Marlene Paulson.

The family that lived here for 70+ years boasts a war hero.

"World War II, and his boat was bombed and he was on a life boat for 22 days," Norris says. And the story is that's why he wanted to have a house on the water, complete with a Widow's Walk.

You can check out the house for yourself this weekend. There's an open house from 1-3 p.m. this Sunday, July 1.
