Judge to reckless driver suspect in Campus Martius crash: 'You're a danger sir'

Witness video captured the moment a Dodge Durango barreled through a fence near Campus Martius in Detroit on Dec. 22.

On Friday in court, the alleged driver, Remacus Hall, faced a judge in 36th District Court for the wild crash caught on camera.

Magistrate: "What's your name?"

"My name is Remacus Hall," he said.

Magistrate: "You need a mirror to do your hair?"

"No, I'm just trying to look presentable - I'm sorry," he said.

Hall is charged with reckless driving - failure to stop. Investigators say he even lied to police and said he wasn't there - and said that his Durango had been stolen.

"There is an Instagram video taken by somebody - there's also surveillance video because it is in the Campus Martius area - plus the defendant was wearing a GPS tether," said Lisa Coyle, assistant Wayne County prosecutor. "He's been busy - he's all of 20 years old."

Prosecutors added that he is already facing a case of fleeing and eluding out of Dearborn - where he's accused of driving 99 in a 35-mile-per-hour zone four days earlier - and there's another pending case for carrying a concealed weapon.

"So this guy has got a lot going on here," said Magistrate William Burton.

"He has a lot going on here," Coyle said.

This includes additional charges from last year.

"I've heard enough - I've heard enough - what was the cash bond you're requesting?" said Magistrate William Burton.

"I'm asking for a $100,000 cash bond - tether house arrest - it appears the tether doesn't do any good," Coyle said.

The judge agreed.

"I believe that you just have a reckless disregard for court orders, sir," Burton said.

"Can I just say one thing?" Hall said.

"No you cannot say one thing," Burton said.

"There is no bone in my body that says I have a disregard for the court's order or anything of that nature - it's just a simple line of bad decisions."

"Well sir - I want to help you with your bad decisions," Burton said.

The judge handed down a cash bond of $100,000 - telling Hall if he bonds out - he's not allowed to drive.

"I think you need some time in jail to cool off and reflect on your bad decisions that you're on a mission to make," Burton said. "You're a danger sir - step aside."
