Kate Upton put to the test to support Marine Week Detroit

DETROIT (WJBK) - Supermodel and Michigan native Kate Upton got put to the test by the U.S. Marine Corps. She went through a fitness challenge to promote this year's Marine Week Detroit and Wins for Warriors' Patriot Ruck.

Her fiance, Justin Verlander, was there to cheer her on throughout the workout at Wayne State University. The Tigers pitcher started his own foundation to support military veterans, Wins for Warriors.

"Over my time here in Detroit, I've been very fortunate to be in a situation to be able to give back, and I wouldn't be able to be here in this free nation, playing America's pastime without these men and women," Verlander told us.

The 2017 Wins for Warriors' Patriot Ruck will take place Saturday, Sept. 9 in Detroit, with all proceeds benefiting local military members and veterans through a donation to Wins for Warriors Foundation and the Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS).

Upton and other Tigers Wives worked out alongside United States Marine Corps on August 22. They did a series of long striders, side straddle hops, walking knee hugs, walking lunges, butt-kickers and more.

"We're so excited to be out here. I'm here with my friends, [they] all came in to do the Marine Week. We're really excited the Marines are coming to Detroit," Upton said.

The exercises will also be part of the daily Marine Week Detroit 7 a.m. workouts in Cadillac Square, which the public is invited to take part in.

Marine Week visits one American city each year. They picked Detroit this year, and will be in town September 5-10.
