A knife attack led to a fatal shooting in an argument Tuesday night in Detroit.

One suspect was using a knife to stab the second man, who then opened fire with his gun at Lumpkin Street and Remington Avenue, south of Eight Mile. One of the men fired a shotgun as well, but police are unsure who had it.

The altercation began with a fight involving $100 between a 37- and 47-year-old. The 47-year-old started stabbing the younger man in the face and head, according to Detroit police Lt. Darin Szilagy.

The younger man, who was a CPL holder, pulled his gun and opened fire. The wounded 47-year-old has died.

After the shooting the wounded man ran to Conant where he was found lying in the street, the stabbing victim/shooter is hospitalized in stable condition.

Szilagy said the two men knew each other as acquaintances but that family members have been unable to provide much information so far.

"It’s a pretty convoluted scene," Szilagy said. "We have a lot of family that responded not only here, but at the hospital. They have not been helpful but emotions are high right now. Hopefully when things calm down we will begin getting some good information.

"It's ridiculous," Szilagy said over the violence over $100. "Hopefully the criminal justice system will show them just how ridiculous it is."
