Knife-wielding man tased by Warren police after driving car into 7-Eleven
WARREN, Mich. (FOX 2) - Police safely apprehended a 46-year-old man who was terrorizing customers and employees at a Warren convenient store last week.
Brian Steele had crashed his vehicle into a 7-Eleven before brandishing two knives and threatening to kill others around midnight in the area of 12 Mile and Schoenherr.
Footage from a body camera worn by responding officers showed a tense standoff with Steele, who was covered in blood. It ended with officers using their taser to subdue the man, before arresting him.
A 911 call came in on Dec. 27 from an employee at the store about an individual armed with a knife. The employees had locked themselves as they waited for police to arrive.
Two cruisers pulled up to the scene, which included a defiant Steele and his girlfriend. According to police, the blood on Steele was from self-inflicted wounds from before their arrival.
During the face off with police, Steele shouted at police to harm him. Instead, the officers urged him to drop the knives before deploying a taser, causing Steele to fall to the ground.
Brian Steele, 46, was charged with several crimes
During the investigation, police recovered two serrated kitchen knives before taking Steele to the hospital to be treated for injuries. He was then lodged at the Warren jail.
On Dec. 30, the prosecutor announced charges against Steele, which include:
- One count of assault with intent to rob while armed
- Two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon
- One count of malicious destruction of a building $1,000 or more
He was given a $250,000 cash/surety bond.
Steele is a habitual 4th offender.
