Lawrence Tech course prepares women for leadership roles

A new course at Lawrence Technological University is helping women advance their careers and achieve leadership roles.

"I took the leadership course to see what I was not giving myself," said course participant Eula Muckleroy.

The class teaches women confidence to reach their goals in the workplace.

"Assertive communications, managing stress, resilience, standing up for yourself in ways that aren't offensive to others," said Patty Castelli, a professor of business at LTU. "Give them the confidence to succeed. Believe in them and they'll start believing in themselves and I think that's a very important aspect of every leader."

Castelli said the program also helps prepare women for hurdles they may face.

"Gender bias, harassment, pay and promotion inequalities," Castelli said.

According to a recent Women in the Workplace report, for every 87 women that were promoted from entry level to manager there were 100 men, with women representing just one in four top-tier managers.

It's these inequalities that this class hopes to address.

The certificate program is three sessions designed for women at any stage in their career. It kicks off the first Thursday in March on Zoom.
