Woman's little dog killed in mastiff attack, police look for owner

Just as she was rounding the corner, with Olaf at the Kozy Korner saloon in Armada - a mastiff, a big dog - attacked.

Susan Kahanak - a hard-working widow, says her life turned upside down a couple of weeks ago while taking 5-year-old Olaf for a walk in Armada. The Bichon was attacked by a dog about 200 pounds heavier.

"He was just like a son to me," she said. "When I come home he would come in the door jump on my leg all the time and just so happy to see me."

Just as she was rounding the corner, with Olaf at the Kozy Korner saloon in Armada - a mastiff, a big dog - attacked.

"Just then they toppled the table, they charged over and they attacked my dog," she said. "One grabbed my dog and dragged him in the street and just chewed him and I just screamed."

The dog's owners actually had two Mastiffs on leashes outside of the bar. The owner was able to get the one attacking Olaf, off, but it was too late.

"The vet said it was just too much for a little dog, he's only 16 pounds," she said. "And these dogs, one of the dogs was 220, I think that I saw."

And the dog's owner - a man and woman - left without saying a word.

"All they would have had to do was stop, 'Ok this is what happened, it's unfortunate, we will take care of the women's vet bills,'" said Police Chief Richard Maierle.

Now police are after the couple.

"I'm convinced that we will find them," he said. "Someone will get some remorse and call us. I've been doing this long enough, with social media. I'm already getting calls already.

"It could have been a child or a baby coming around the corner," she said. "These people need to turn themselves in."

The love Susan felt from Olaf, she summed up like this:

"Touch a Bischon and you have touched a bit of heaven. Love a Bischon and you've loved life forever," she said.
