Liquor store clerk pulled gun, starts shooting to break up Detroit fight

The Detroit Police Department says it has arrested three men involved in a fight, including a liquor store clerk on Detroit's east side.

Police were called to Carmen's Liquor Store on Gratiot around 1 a.m. to the shooting. Police said it started with a fight in the parking lot and someone pulled a gun and started shooting. Some of the bullets hit the liquor store.

At that point, the 63-year-old clerk working inside came out with a gun to stop the fight and started shooting as well. The shooter in the parking lot, a 27-year-old man, shot the clerk. The 27-year-old was also shot.

Both men were taken to the hospital and are expected to survive their injuries. Police have both in custody at this point.

A third man was spotted by police running from the scene. Police tracked him to a house a few blocks away and arrested him.

Police are still trying to determine what prompted the fight.
