Lung Force Walk unites metro Detroiters in fight against lung disease
The American Lung Association in Michigan held the Lung Force Walk at the Detroit Zoo in Royal Oak Sunday morning.
Lung Force emphasizes healthy lungs and healthy air, especially the fight against lung cancer in women.
The American Lung Association reports the rate of lung cancer in women has doubled in the last 35 years.
Since Lung Force launched in May of 2014, the goal has been to increase awareness about about Lung Cancer, which is the number one cancer killer.
The American Lung Association wants to reduce the death rate attributed to lung cancer by ten percent.
Early detection and treatment, supporting patients and promoting research are also main goals.
The program also seeks to lower the number of people with asthma and COPD who have some limitations with activity.
Nationally, the White House Moonshot initiative has secured 1.8 billion in federal support for cancer research and doubled the number of WHO have lung cancer on their health radar.
