Mackinac Island named top summer travel spot by Trip Advisor

A Michigan gem has been named a top travel destination.

Trip Advisor says Mackinac Island is the number one summer destination in the U.S. for 2018. 

Trip Advisor made its list based which city has the greatest increase in hotel bookings from spring to summer. It says Mackinac Island is a charming "throwback" to seaside leisure. 

If you're planning a summer trip there, plan fast. Trip Advisor found the least expensive summer week there is around June 4. Trip Advisor says the average summer nightly hotel rate is $347, and that you'll find the best value at The Inn at Stonecliff for just under $300 a night. 

Trip Advisor also recommends a sunset cruises, and to grab food at Pink Pony. 

Other places that made the list? Bar Harbor, Maine; Block Island, Rhode Island; Lake George, New York; West Yellowstone, Montana; Ocean City, Maryland; Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts; Anchorage, Alaska; Jackson Hole, Wyoming; and Nantucket, Massachusetts.
