Macomb County woman found guilty in death of ex-boyfriend's son she beat in 2015
MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. (FOX 2) - A woman was found guilty by a jury in the death of her ex-boyfriend’s son, eight years after the child was severely injured.
It has been nearly a decade since 14-month-old Nicolas Kuras was sent to the hospital in 2015.
Hilary Ulp was then found guilty of First Degree Child Abuse of her then boyfriend’s son a year later in 2016. She was sentenced to 11–30 years in the Michigan Department of Corrections.
Officials say Kuras was almost 7-years-old when he died, passing on Jan. 7, 2021.
Ulp was then charged with Felony Murder after he died, a crime that carries a life sentence without the possibility of parole.
On Monday, she was found guilty by a Macomb County jury and is scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 28, 2025.
"I hope today’s verdict brings some measure of justice for the innocent child whose life was tragically cut short. This case is a reminder of the responsibility we all share in protecting our most vulnerable. The defendant’s actions were not only criminal but unconscionable, and the jury’s decision reflects the severity of her crimes," said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido.
