The man Dearborn Heights police warned people about on Facebook for allegedly impersonating a k-9 officer is giving his side of the story.

FOX 2 followed Blake Purvis as he delivers meals, blankets and socks to the homeless. Purvis, with his Feeding Detroit and Downriver organization, claims he collects hundreds a month, and he says he works an overnight security job as well.

Warning issued for fake k-9 cop by Dearborn Heights police

"We're funded, but financially I spend a lot of my own money," he said. "We have followers on Facebook who donate money and I have to work hard to do this stuff."

But Purvis was the subject of a recent online warning from police on the k-9 outfits he dons and his look-alike police SUV with canine decals on it.

The alert read: "Attention all Dearborn Heights citizens. Keep your eyes open for this guy! He is not a real police officer, let alone a k-9 officer!"

"If I did anything wrong - like I have been telling everybody - I would be sitting in jail right now if I was impersonating a police officer," Purvis said.

But Purvis still has the k-9 logo on his jacket even after all the attention and still has this logo on his SUV, despite allegations from folks like Joe Matney.

Matney told FOX 2 Purvis once pulled him over in Detroit's west side Warrendale neighborhood.  FOX 2 spoke with Matney on Wednesday.

His allegations like his are being investigated by Michigan State Police.

"They have a phone and my dashcam under investigation," Purvis said.

When FOX 2 caught up with Purvis, he was giving out supplies and food to those in need. But the question is - as the online police warning states, is he also pretending to be something he's not?
