Man charged for assault at Canton mosque

A 65-year-old man was arrested for assault at a mosque by Canton police.

The suspect, 65-year-old Hobibur Rahman of Hamtramck, turned himself in for an alleged assault at the Masjid Bilal, 1525 Ridge Road. The incident allegedly happened Aug. 10.

No information was given by police about who Rahman allegedly assaulted, the circumstances or what weapon or item he used in the altercation. One of his charges is for assault with a dangerous weapon, a four year felony.

Rahman was also arraigned for aggravated assault, a one-year misdemeanor in 35th District Court and given a $10,000 personal bond.

He will be appearing in court for a probable cause conference Aug. 26.
