DETROIT (FOX 2) - A Warren man has been charged with causing a crash that killed two people on Detroit's west side earlier this month.
A witness took cell phone video of the fiery crash in the early morning hours of April 9.
The prosecutor says 49-year-old Vincel Lewis was driving a rented U-Haul truck when he began chasing 39-year-old Laquita Durant and 32-year-old Larry Hurst. Police haven't said what prompted the chase.
As Durant tried to get away she lost control of her Audi and crashed into a tree on Woyming near Eight Mile. The car caught on fire. She and Hurst were killed.
People inside a nearby gas station grabbed a fire extinguisher and tried to help put out the car fire, but were unsuccessful.
Lewis is charged with two counts of second-degree murder.
