Man driving 100 MPH while drunk, kills 10-year-old girl, father; gets 18 years

DETROIT (WJBK) - A man who says he has a drinking problem and tearfully apologized to the family of a man and his 10-year-old girl who he killed while driving 100 MPH will spend 18 years in prison.

Antonio Banks pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of driving drunk causing injury. On Tuesday, he admitted to his crimes in court as he apologized to the family of the victims.

Arriyonna Woods, 10, and her father, George Noble, were in a car on Detroit's west side in May when Bank rear ended them at 100 MPH. Arriyonna's twin sister and aunt were also in the car and were hurt in the crash.

"My baby, my baby, and you took her away from me. And I'm left so broken, empty, and so hurt," Woods' mother said. "I don't hate you. You don't know what you did. You hurt so many people"

Banks' blood alcohol content was more than twice the legal limit.

"You knew you were an alcoholic, that you were incapable of driving and yet you made a conscious decision to get behind the wheel and to drive at irrational rates of speed," Judge Kevin Cox said.

Banks turned to the victim's family and offered a tearful apology while owning hi actions. He told the judge he was addicted to alcohol and knows he needs help.

"You have stepped up and you have taken responsibility and that perhaps is a slight bit of satisfaction for the Noble and Woods families," Cox said.

Banks will spend 18 years and 9 months in prison for the crimes.
