A man is dead after being shot and crashing his car on E, Outer Drive in Detroit.

It was 3 a.m. Wednesday when Darius McCurtis was arriving home from work and saw the scene.

"I saw the car, I saw the devastation to the backyard and I saw a dead man in the car," he said.

A concerned neighbor says she heard the trouble when it all began.

"Around 2:15 I heard seven to eight gun shots," she said. "I heard a car trying to get away and a car crash into the light pole."

When she came outside, she says she saw the victim inside the vehicle and tried to help

Police say a 45-year-old man was driving on Barham near E. Outer Dive when he was shot multiple times by an unknown suspect, causing him to lose control of his car.

That's when police say the victim hit a pole causing wires to come down.

When emergency crews first arrived on scene they were unable to get close to the victim's car because of the live wires.

DTE crews have been on scene for hours assessing damage and working to replace wires and restore power. Hundreds lost power and most were restored by noon Wednesday.

Police are still searching for the shooting suspect.
