TROY, Mich. (FOX 2) - The Oakland County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of a 21-year-old man who appeared on an episode of the Netflix show 'Dope' for drug trafficking.
Ryan James Zettel, aka 'Ozone', was arrested Tuesday by the Oakland County Narcotic Enforcement Team (NET).
According to a press release from the sheriff's department, they started investigating Zettell in July 2018 after receiving a tip that identified him as a Troy-area drug trafficker.
The tip said Zettell was featured on season 2, episode 3 of the show 'Dope' on Netflix. The episode focused on the Detroit area and interviewed Zettell, authorities said.
The show, which covers faces and disguises voices of drug traffickers and dealers, did not identify Zettell but detectives were able to track him down regardless.
According to the press release, detectives were able to arrange and buy both cocaine and MDMA (Molly) from Zettell while he was under surveillance.
NET secured search warrants and reported Zettell conduct illegal activities. When he was arrested, Zettell had a backpack with digital scales, 62 acid tabs, 29 grams of Molly, a gram of cocaine, and a laptop. Authorities also recovered a Kimber .45, one gram of cocaine, and $7,195 in cash at another search.
During the course of his interview, Zettell said he was on the Netflix show mentioned above. In the show, he said he was going to college and wanted to get into criminal justice.
He's being held on six felony charges of delivery/manufacture of controlled substances. He's being held on a $15,000 bond or 10%.
He's due back in court on February 14.
