Police released information about the shooting on Thursday, one day after the victim in his 50s was shot by a man wearing a police hat.

According to police, the suspect shot the victim on Conant near Emery on Detroit's east side after the two got into some kind of argument.

"He mouthed the words to the victim to slow down, the victim thinking it was the police who acknowledged him. He continued driving and he drove to his place of employment in the 19 thousand block of Conant," said DPD Officer Jacqueline Pritchett said. "The suspect's vehicle pulled into where he was at."

According to reports, the victim parked at his work and got out of his vehicle, when the suspect got into a verbal exchange with him.

"The conversation escalated to where the victim pulled out his cell phone and started recording the incident," said Pritchett. "The suspect exited his vehicle with a handgun, fires once and strikes the victim in the left shoulder. he gets in the car and he takes off."

The suspect followed the victim and identified himself as a police officer before the shooting, according to Detroit Police.

The victim was shot at least once. Police said his injuries are not fatal.

The man was wearing a black baseball hat that said "POLICE" on it. He was carrying a light-colored (white/tan/silver) handgun and driving a white sedan, possibly a 2015-16 Chevrolet Malibu.

"The police normally don’t pull anyone over in unmarked cars," Pritchett said.
