DETROIT (WJBK) - The family of a man killed during a police chase in Detroit wants to know why police didn't call off a high speed chase when they chased a suspect through a neighborhood.
Police were called to the area of Charles and Gable around 3 a.m. Wednesday morning to a report of someone being threatened with a gun. When police arrived, the suspect sped off, leading police on a high speed chase. It ended at French Road and Shoemaker when the driver of the Pontiac Grand Prix smashed into a tree.
The 25-year-old man, Johnathon Miller, was ejected and killed. The family is at a loss to what happened to this father of six with another on the way.
A woman claims she was being threatened with a gun. Police say when they first arrived, they didn't see anything. When they saw a white Grand Prix drive by that matched the description given to police, the cops chased after him.
"The whole incident lasted six minutes - the officer said as he went over 94, he really accelerated - got away from them, lost control of the car and struck a tree," Detroit Assistant Chief Steve Dolunt said.
The officer chasing him said he was going close to 90 MPH. His family, however, says that doesn't add up.

"The mother of his child supposedly made a call to police on him and said he had a weapon - and he was driving her car - that was her car," his sister, Kaurita Lamb, said.
Kaurita also said he didn't have a gun and the family wants to see police dashcam. Police say they're conducting an internal investigation and will review the 911 call, the dashcam, and their procedures.
The family said, after the accident, the scene wasn't cleaned up enough. They said they found blood and pieces of flesh at the scene and they want it all cleaned up.
"They didn't remove all of his remains - because they're still out here," his cousin Charlene Lamb said.
Rev. W.J. Rideout is involved with the family and said he's praying for the family.
"I pray for the family receives comfort. That they get some resolve to this incident," Rideout said.
