PITTSFIELD TWP., MIch. (WJBK) - (UPDATE May 12): Police have released a suspect sketch which has been included here.
A desperate search is underway for a dangerous man who attacked a young woman at her apartment.
Police say he barged through the front door, and then sexually assaulted her.
At 12:30 p.m. a 23-year-old woman answered a knock at her door at the Spice Tree Apartments on Washtenaw Avenue in Pittsfield Township,
Thinking she was getting a delivery, she opened the door he bolts in, raped her and stole her cash.
The victim describes her attacker as a black male about 20-30 years old, 6-foot-4 to 6-foot-6 with a medium build and had a strong odor of cigarette smoke.
Visitors need to be buzzed in to gain access to the common hallway of the apartments. Resident Elyse Terry said she has concerns when she frequently sees the apartment exterior doors which should be locked, left propped open.
It is unclear how the guy gained access to the hallway, but other residents say doors propped open are not unusual.
"Especially now they have been doing a bunch of maintenance and they've been doing it for a couple months," said Christianne Rebsaman. "I'll come home and the door will just be unlocked. That happens pretty regularly and its propped open by people with sticks or pebbles."
FOX 2 stopped by the apartment office after hours but it was closed. Residents FOX 2 spoke with said the leasing management company has not informed them of a sex assault.
