Man kills woman at motel, confesses to police at nearby gas station
A man is accused of murdering his on and off girlfriend at a Taylor motel and then telling a Michigan State Police trooper about it at a gas station.
TAYLOR, Mich. (FOX 2) - A man is accused of murdering his on-again, off-again girlfriend at a Taylor motel Tuesday and then flagging down a Michigan State Police trooper to tell them.
According to police, the 42-year-old suspect was at a gas station at Goddard and Telegraph roads around 5:30 p.m. when he told a trooper to arrest him for the murder of his girlfriend.
"The trooper was a little bit startled, and he was like, ‘What was that?’" said Taylor police Det. Frank Canning.
After, police conducted a welfare check at the Tel Wick Motel and found the victim dead from a single gunshot wound.
The 38-year-old victim had just arrived to visit the suspect, who had been staying at the motel for a few days.
"He had indicated there was a little bit of an argument. He was in possession of a gun, and there might have been a tussle of some sorts," Canning said. "Looks like they had a long relationship both in and out of love, and there were some prior police runs in the system we could locate, some family troubles."
The suspect was taken into custody, but police are not yet identifying him.
