Man wanted after holding knife to 7-year-old's throat during robbery in Washtenaw Co.
PITTSFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (FOX 2) - Police are looking for a man who they say held a knife to a 7-year-old's throat during a robbery in Pittsfield Township.
Police say the suspect is 57-year-old Melvin Francis Sroufe, Jr.
The robbery happened Sunday afternoon as a woman and her daughter were loading groceries into their car on Carpenter Road, near Ellsworth, according to investigators.
The two were approached by the suspect, who grabbed the girl and put the large knife to her throat. He then demanded the 35-year-old woman get into her car or he would kill her daughter.
Witnesses say what was happening and began to speak to Sroufe. The woman and her daughter were able to get away without being hurt.
The mother's wallet was stolen from her shopping cart and the suspect ran south towards Ellsworth Road.
A police dog was able to track the suspect for a while, and found evidence and the wallet. Police were not able to locate the suspect though and are still looking for him at this time.
