Metro Detroit's first Cabela's opening Thursday

After much anticipation, the first Cabela's in the metro Detroit area is opening Thursday, August 3.

The store is in Chesterfield Township, near the area of Interstate 94 and 21 Mile Road.

A big grand opening celebration is scheduled in the parking lot before the doors officially open at 10 a.m. Some eager customers have been waiting in line since Tuesday night for their chance at the doorbuster prizes.

The first 500 people in line get a Cabela's gift card with a mystery amount, that could be anywhere from $10 to $500. Three people will also win a Remington firearm.

Cabela's are known for their outdoor and recreational merchandise. They specialize in hunting, fishing and camping gear.

The 90,000 square-foot store in Chesterfield Township has the store's signature Conservation Mountain and wildlife-display feature, along with dozens of museum-quality taxidermy mounts, vintage outdoor photos and memorabilia, and a regionally specific theme and design features.

Additionally, the store will include an archery and firearm tech room, indoor archery range and Bargain Cave, along with a product assortment specifically tailored for the metro Detroit region.

Other stores in Michigan are located in Grandville, Saginaw and Dundee.
