Michigan man charged with animal torture after 3-month-old puppy found with fractured skull

A northern Michigan man is charged with torturing an animal after he was allegedly spotted hitting a puppy with a stick outside a Macomb Township fast food restaurant.

According to the Macomb County Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to a restaurant on Hall Road around 11:30 a.m. Monday on reports that a dog was being abused inside a camper van.

The backstory:

A witness told authorities that he saw a man, later identified as 25-year-old Corbin Miller from Manistee, hitting a puppy with a "cylindrical item."

When deputies arrived, Miller allegedly refused to cooperate. He wouldn't roll down his window, get out of his vehicle, or allow animal control inside to help his 3-month-old puppy, named Maeby.

Eventually, deputies got inside the camper and saw Maeby, a German pointer mix, suffering a leg injury. She also yelped when she was picked up. After an evaluation, it was determined that Maeby had a skull fracture, pelvic girdle fracture, and a femur fracture. According to the Macomb County Sheriff's Office, she is awaiting possible surgery, but is otherwise in good spirits.

"If we did not get this information to make contact with this individual that this person witnessed it, I truly believe that this individual would’ve killed this dog," said Macomb County Sheriff Commander Jason Abro.
