Michigan State Police investigate possible human remains discovery in Oceana County

Michigan State Police (MSP) found what they believe to be human remains in the park of a western Michigan town on Monday.

On Dec. 30, MSP in Oceana County said they were called out to a wooded area near Rothbury on a report of a possible discovery of human remains.

The investigation continued on Wednesday, New Year's Day, with police saying more evidence was recovered. MSP said forensic anthropologists from the Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine responded to the scene to assist with the recovery.

The remains could not be identified as of Wednesday as officials are waiting for autopsy results.

An investigation is ongoing.

FOX 2 will update this story when MSP provides more information.
