Michigan woman trades McDonald's Szechuan Sauce for Volkswagen

McDonald's Szechuan Sauce is inspiring madness as the Golden Arches puts out the sauce for a limited time. But perhaps one of the most bizarre stories originated from Michigan where a woman traded one packet of sauce for a car.

So let's explain Szechuan Sauce real quick. The sauce was originally made in 1998 as part of the promotion for the Disney movie Mulan. It was insanely popular and just a few years ago, but the teriyaki-flavored sauce was soon fazed out once the hype of the movie wore off.

20 years later, the TV show Rick and Morty returned for a third season. At the end of the episode, Rick goes on a 30-second rant and explains his desire to track down Szechwan Sauce. The shows fans and McDonald's bought in and McD's re-released the sauce at certain restaurants.

Apparently one of those restaurants was in Macomb where Rachel Marie got a packet. She posted in a Facebook pin group, offering to trade the packet for a collection of pins. She got a much better offer.

She traded a single packet of Szechuan Sauce for a 2004 Volkswagen GTI. But this is no base model car, the German car is a 1.8-liter turbo 4-cylinder with a 5-speed. It's worth about $5,000 because of the extra options.

"I didn't even think I was going to get pin offers," Rachel told The Drive. "Then he offered the car."

Without hesitation, she took the trade.
