Missing Hamtramck teen Maria Armstrong home safe
HAMTRAMCK, Mich. (WJBK) - A 16-year-old girl who was missing for nearly a week has returned home, her family said.
Bowers hadn't seen her niece Maria Armstrong in nearly a week and nobody seems to know what happened to her. Armstrong, a special education student, is gone.
"She would definitely be vulnerable," Bowers said. "She's very trusting and very naive."
Her family says Maria was at Hamtramck High School, she was supposed to meet some friends. Her family says they don't know if she ever showed up.
Maria's mother and aunt worry she may have been lured into something dangerous. They have contacted police, the school, her friends, even her ex-boyfriend.
"We have nothing to go on," Bowers said. "All we know is she hasn't contacted us, she has no charger. We don't know where she is - but her phone is still ringing all the way to voicemail, so someone is keeping that phone charged."
Maria has a special event coming up at school that she wouldn't miss.
"She was really anticipating her teacher leaving tomorrow," Bowers said. "She's got a teacher who is leaving and she really wanted to go to that party. Maria doesn't miss school at all."
But she's missed school now for nearly a week - her family hoping and praying she comes home - that someone out there knows something - and can help.
"Maria - wherever you are and you are able to get ahold to a phone - talk to someone - we are not going to be upset that you've been gone this long," Bowers said. "We want her home no matter what - and we want her home safe and sound
According to family, she returned home Monday night.
