On Monday, Mission BBQ opened its newest location on Haggerty Road in Northville Township. It's the restaurant's 72nd location and their second in Michigan.

"We just wanted to build a business that had purpose, that had meaning, that had significance, and so we actually opened our first Mission BBQ in Glen Burnie, Maryland on September 11, 2011," said kitchen manager Matt Kujawski. "We're just trying to remind people how fortunate we are to live in this great country because of the heroes that we have."

The profound respect that Mission BBQ has for the men and women who have served the country or are serving in local law enforcement is front and center.

"Our best two minutes of the day are every day in every Mission BBQ," Kujawski.

He says during the busiest time at noon they shut the kitchens down, everything comes to a halt, they make an announcement and play the national anthem.

"We play that anthem because we can because we're free," he said.

As they do leading up to every opening, Mission BBQ honors service members. It was a very special day for Ray Owen, a World War II veteran.

"I was overwhelmed with people that came out and congratulated me and the way they set this thing up," he said, adding the pulled pork is "remarkable."
