(WJBK) - A mother is suing a Missouri high school for discrimination after her son didn't make the varsity soccer team and was consequently then kicked off the junior varsity team last month.
KTVI reports that school officials at Ladue High School say if a junior does not make the varsity team, the boy cannot play again on the JV team. This policy, the school says, allows lower grade students a chance to play.
The mother of one junior student who didn't make the varsity team thinks this policy is unfair and has sued after Ladue Superintendent Donna Jahnke decided the family's complaint was unsubstantiated. The lawsuit states the issue is age and sex discrimination, because the same rules don't apply to younger students or to girls.
Courtroom testimony on Friday revealed seven juniors were cut from the varsity team. A judge has not decided yet if the student will be put on the junior varsity team as his mother wants.
Ladue Horton Watkins High School is located in Ladue, Mo., about ten miles west of St. Louis.
