(WJBK) - It was a scene horrific scene on Detroit's east side, where a woman and her teen daughter were killed in an early morning crash Thursday.
Sarah Padgett, 41, was heading northbound on Chene near I-94 shortly before 7 a.m. when she lost control. Her 2013 Taurus hit the viaduct, flipped and smashed into a light pole with such force it split the car in two.
Padgett was ejected and died. Her 11-year-old daughter was also found dead at the scene. The woman's 8-year-old son was pinned inside, and was extricated by emergency crews.
He was initially in critical condition, but Detroit police say he is stabilized, but is in shock.
Debris was strewn about a half of a city block, and the car is basically unrecognizable.
Police confirm that she was going too fast but they're trying to figure out why she was going so fast with two kids in the car. Investigators are also working to figure out why the family from Gaylord was in Detroit.
Sources tell FOX 2 at this point they don't have any known ties to the city.
