LANSING, Mich. (WJBK) - Michigan's top cop will meet with lawmakers Thursday who are calling for her resignation after she posted an inflammatory photo meme on Facebook.
Michigan State Police Colonel Kriste Etue will meet with members of the black caucus at the capitol in Lansing Thursday afternoon.
She's been under fire for the better part of the week following a facebook post criticizing NFL players that kneel during the national anthem. The black caucus is among several groups calling for Etue's resignation.
So far, she has support from other law enforcement and government officials. Etue has apologized, and Gov. Rick Snyder says he won't fire her.
MSP director faces investigation after NFL protest post
Etue is also currently facing an internal investigation, which will determine if she'll be disciplined for the post.
The message shared on Etue's personal Facebook page called NFL players who kneel during the anthem "millionaire ingrates who hate America and disrespect our armed forces and veterans." The posting also called the protesters "rich, entitled, ungrateful."
A statement from Etue last week said it was a mistake to share the post and she'll "continue my focus on unity."
Michigan State Police director apologizes for NFL protest post
The taking of a knee during the national anthem was started last year by former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick to draw attention to social inequality and police treatment of blacks.
Lions owner Martha Firestone Ford was among numerous owners to issue statements supporting the players' right to protest.
