Two dead in Sunday afternoon I-75 crash in Detroit
A fatal crash blocked traffic Sunday afternoon on I-75 in Detroit.
DETROIT (FOX 2) - A four-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon has caused multiple fatalities, according to Michigan State Police.
The crash, between two SUVs and a sedan, happened just before 4 p.m. on southbound I-75 near Mack Avenue.
A 50-year-old Novi man and a 56-year-old Farmington Hills woman were killed in the crash.
Michigan State Police said that the driver of a 2001 Ford Crown Victoria was in the left lane when she struck a 2021 Chevy Traverse that was slowing down for stopped traffic. That SUV was pushed into a 2022 Kia Telluride. That vehicle was then pushed into a 2024 Jeep Wrangler.
Police said the at-fault driver did not hit her brakes before the collision.
The male victim was a passenger in the at-fault vehicle according to police, the other victim was a passenger in the Kia. Several other people suffered minor injuries.
"It is important for all drivers to remember that every time they get behind the wheel they are not only responsible for themselves and their passengers, but others that they share the road with as well." said MSP Lt. Mike Shaw. "Driving requires all of our attention, all of the time. Driving conditions can change in a split second and if drivers are not paying attention, it can be deadly."
