Police say two three-year-old boys were critically injured Wednesday morning when a toddler got their hands on a gun inside a Dearborn in-home daycare. When they investigated, police say they found more than one gun inside the home.

Dearborn Police say two young children were shot by a toddler at a home daycare in Dearborn Wednesday morning in the 30000 block of Harding Street. When they arrived, they immediately began treating both boys for their injuries. Both are said to have significant injuries and have been rushed to two different trauma centers.

The children were being cared for by a woman who runs a babysitting service out of her home. FOX 2 has checked the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs and did not find a daycare listed at the address on Harding Street.

According to police, they found multiple guns inside the home.

"It's appalling, it's negligence, it's gross negligence. Both these children could die," said Marilyn Starr, who lives nearby.

Both 3-year-old boys are in critical but stable condition.

Samantha Eubanks lives in the home. Her sister, Ashley Escobedo, said Samantha babysits kids of friends and family members at the home.

"I know my sister and she would never let anything happen to any kids. She's the best person you can have to ever watch your children. She treats every child like they are her own," Esobedo said.

The question now is why would a loaded gun be so readily available for a toddler?

"She would always say don't you ever bring a gun in this house, it's not gonna happen. That's why I'm very shocked," Esobedo said.

Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad says first responders worked quickly to get the little children to trauma units as quickly as possible.

"If there are charges, they'll be appropriate charges. we seem to know all the parties involved and the investigation is ongoing," Haddad said.

Eubanks had two children inside the home at the time of the shooting. They were not injured.
