(FOX) - Doctors in Kentucky are working to solve the mystery of how a young boy fell asleep for 11 days.
Seven-year-old Wyatt Shaw and his family attended a wedding at the beginning of October.
"He danced and had a good old time," his mother, Amy, says. "He stole the last dance. He took the bride away from the groom."
After a night like that, Amy expected Wyatt to be tired -- but never expected what would happen next.
"Monday I tried to wake him up, and he fell back to sleep. [I'd say], 'Wyatt, Wyatt, Wyatt!' And he fell back to sleep again," Amy says.
Wyatt wouldn't wake up for close to two weeks. Eleven days, to be exact.
Doctors eventually woke him up by giving him medication that's usually used for helping with seizures.
Now, this tough boy from Elizabethtown, Ky. is having trouble talking and walking, but he's improving and is well aware of his story. The only thing he doesn't understand is why it happened, which is a medical mystery to his doctors, too.
"Every test they did came back clear," Amy says. Scans for bacteria, parasites, viruses - all of them. Some of the best physicians in the country are stumped.
"They said we'll probably never know. But, we're just going to treat him now with rehab, to get him better," Amy says.
Wyatt has been in the hospital since the first week of October. His family will be by his side, leaning on their faith.
