INDEPENDENCE CHARTER TOWNSHIP, Mich. (FOX 2) - A Michigan State Police patrol car carrying a person who had just been arrested was involved in a multi-vehicle crash Wednesday evening, according to MSP.
The crash has closed the freeway on northbound I-75 at Sashabaw Road in Independence Charter Township, the Michigan Department of Transportation stated.
Around 6:30 p.m., a 16-year-old driver "drifted onto the right shoulder" and struck the patrol car, which was then pushed into the arrestee's vehicle, MSP Second District said on X (formerly Twitter).
Just before the crash, the trooper had just conducted a traffic stop on NB I-75 near Clarkston Road and apprehended the person for impaired driving, police said.
"The trooper and prisoner were transported to a local hospital," according to MSP. "Both of them sustained lacerations to their face and the trooper a possible broken arm."
