Neighbor in custody after 1 injured in Highland Park shooting

Police are investigating after a man was critically injured in a shooting in his front lawn early Tuesday morning in Highland Park. 

We're told the victim was trying to run inside his home when he was shot multiple times in the chest. His home is in the 240 block of Tennyson Street, which is near Caniff Street and Oakland Avenue. 

Police were called to the shooting scene around 2 a.m. and the 53-year-old victim was rushed to the hospital, where he is in critical condition. 

Police brought in a K9 unit and were able to track down the suspect, a neighbor, almost immediately. 

Marli Blackman, the press secretary in Highland Park, says the two got in a fight during an attempted robbery. She says the victim was trying to fight for his life and that he was shot several times, but is expected to survive. 

Blackmon named the suspect as 40-year-old Anthony Williams.
