SOUTH DAYTONA, Fla. (FOX 35 WOFL) - The South Daytona Police Department says a small dog had its paw blown off. Officers received an animal complaint on Tuesday afternoon.
Madison Carroll, 58, lived next door to a dachshund, which was loose and running around with another dog in his owner's front yard.
Carroll reportedly went inside his home, got a M80 firecracker, came back outside, lit the firecracker, and threw it at the dog.
"I didn't know if I was gonna lose him or not there was just so much blood!" said owner Kyle Jasinski. "He wasn't crying or anything, being so tough. He wasn't whimpering or anything. Then I come up and I'm like, 'Oscar, what are you doing?' and I see red all over."
The dog's leg will have to be amputated. Caroll's mother said her son didn't understand what he was doing.
"I'm very upset with him, but like I was saying, he has brain damage, and sometimes, he doesn't know what he's doing."
Carroll was arrested and charged with animal cruelty.
