DETROIT (WJBK) - A newborn baby and his mother were injured in a shooting at their home on the city's east side. Police transported the child, who is said to be four days old, to St. John Hospital after the shooting.
The baby's wound does not appear to be life threatening, police said. We're told the baby was grazed in the head by the bullet.
The baby was being held by his mother when someone outside fired bullets at the house in the 16100 block of Maddelein Avenue, which is near Kelly and Moross roads. The 24-year-old mother was wounded in the leg.
Both are expected to be okay.
It is unknown if there are any other victims and there is no description of the shooter at this time.
The shooting happened around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday. If you were in the area at the time and saw or heard anything suspicious you’re asked to contact Detroit Police.
