Oak Park boy, 12, dies after being shot during 'gunplay' Monday

An Oak Park boy has died despite doctors' best efforts to save him after he was shot during 'gunplay' among him and other children Monday.

Police said they were called to the shooting to a house on Saratoga just south of Nine Mile. The 12-year-old boy was found with a gunshot and EMS arrived and took him to Providence Hospital.

Father says 12-year-old was shot while doing school work at girlfriend’s house

The father of a 12-year-old boy who was killed in Oak Park said he brought his son to his girlfriend's house so the boy could do school work when he was shot and killed by a 15-year-old.

Doctors and hospital staff tried to save him but he was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Oak Park investigators said they believe there was gunplay among juveniles that resulted in the shooting. According to police on the scene, a 15-year-old boy was arrested for shooting the younger boy.

The boy's father, Lavez Williams, said the home belongs to his girlfriend and he brought his son, Ladamian, over to do school work.

Lavez wasn't in the home when the gun was found. Police said the gun was a legally registered firearm but Lavez said he had never seen it before.

Investigators are still interviewing witnesses and people who were in the home at the time of the shooting.
