ROCHESTER, Mich. (WJBK) - The Oakland University Police Department (OUPD) said Friday that it is investigating a string of arsons that have all happened in bathrooms on campus.
Police said that a fire was reported in the South Foundation Hall on Thursday, June 21, around 8:30. Police said the fire was set in the third-floor of the women's restroom.
This is the third report of a bathroom fire since May, though OUPD says they were not aware of the fires until Thursday. The most recent one was set in the same bathroom on June 1. The first fire was at Hannah Hall on the second-floor in the men's bathroom.
OUPD are asking all members of the community to be extra vigilant:
- If you see anyone or anything suspicious on campus, contact the OUPD immediately.
- If you see or smell smoke on campus, call 911 and activate the nearest fire alarm pull station.
- Except when a building is in lockdown status, evacuate the building if a fire alarm sounds.
- If a fire alarm sounds in a building that is in lockdown status, evacuate the building only if your life is threatened by fire or smoke.
Anyone with information regarding the arson incidents noted above is asked to contact the OUPD at (248) 370-3331.
