Off duty Detroit police officer shot on city's west side

DETROIT (WJBK) - An off-duty Detroit Police officer was shot Monday after mishandling gun on Detroit's west side.

According to FOX 2 sources, the female officer was off duty in the 9600 block of Artesian near W. Chicago and the Southfield Freeway.

Police say mishandled her gun while inside the home and it discharged. She was shot in her upper right arm.

The officer's condition has been listed as temporary serious at Sinai Grace.

Neighbors say the officer was visiting the home of her boyfriend's mother and that her boyfriend is also an officer. Detroit police have not confirmed that information.
