(WJBK) - Dozens of stylists from Paul Mitchell The School gathered Friday for their annual event to give haircuts to the lower income community in Detroit in partnership with Cass Community Social Services.
They got to enjoy a free shampoo and haircut by professional stylists.
Also, thanks to a generous donation they were given a "Street Survival Kits" packed with toiletries and essential personal items.
"This day is about so much more than just shampoos and haircuts by professional stylists - these volunteers are giving people dignity and the recognition that they are devoid of on a day-to-day basis," said Cass Executive Director Faith Fowler. "This is a wonderful gift for our poor and homeless population, last year's inaugural event served more than 100 people. We're excited and thankful."
"Many of our [future professionals] have never been around homeless people or ever talked to them, so it's really changing their lives as well, too," says Tina Black from Paul Mitchell The School.
The event was at Cass Community Activity Center in Detroit from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
