(WJBK) - The former heads of Rizzo Environmental Services are expected to plead guilty in federal court next month.
Chuck Rizzo and his father have a plea hearing scheduled for Nov. 9, according to court records, in connection to a Macomb County corruption scandal. The court document (below) with the scheduled court appearance is dated Oct. 11.
Rizzo stepped down in Oct., 2016 amid the federal investigation into public officials. About 17 people have been named in the case leading to a large slate of criminal charges.
Investigators said Rizzo was part of an elaborate scheme to steal money and pay off public officials. He faces 36 counts ranging from conspiracy to commit bribery to mail and wire fraud.
The feds say he was involved in at least 10 different schemes to steal money from his own company to pay for his mansion and bribes for garbage hauling contracts.
According to the indictment, the government seized more than $4 million in forfeiture provisions with more to come.
The new owners of Rizzo, GFL Environmental, have called it unacceptable after accepting Rizzo's resignation a year ago.
