Police: Fitzgerald High School student stabbed to death over love triangle
WARREN, Mich. (WJBK) - Screams startled students inside Fitzgerald High School on Wednesday morning as the Warren school went into lockdown after a 16-year-old student was stabbed in the chest.
"I didn't think that this would ever in a million years happen at Fitz," said Donald, a friend of the victim.
Warren police say around 8:30 a.m., a 17-year-old female student already armed with a kitchen knife suddenly lunged at the other teen in the middle of class, screams echoing through the halls.

"It was fearful. And you could just hear the people running from it," Donald said.
Police say the school's security officer came running, finding the teen, who her friends identify as 16-year-old Danyna Gibson, stabbed twice in the chest.
"The school resource officer did a superb job. He was there administering CPR within seconds trying to save this young girl's life," said Warren Police Commissioner Bill Dwyer.
Police arrested the female student. Danyna Gibson died in the hospital an hour later.
"She was just good spirited and for her to lose her life like this, it's just crazy," Donald said.
Police say they believe a love triangle spurred the attack. A male student said to have been dating both girls, who used to be friends. Danyna was described as bright, giving and hard-working. The honor roll student involved in sports, robotics and the school's marching band.

Friends say the teen, who is now in custody and admitting to the attack, never had any issues before, either.
"I never expected this out of her and for me to hear this about her, it's sad because she was also very bright," Donald said.
While police say they don't know how or when the knife had been brought into the school, panicked parents are demanding a safer school.
"I want the school to step up and say hey, we have a problem here -- here's a solution," said Alicia Hazard.
Warren police say murder charges are expected to be filed Thursday.
The high school will remain closed until Friday, but counseling is available for students and parents from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
